Independent experts of the European Commission (EC) are interested in the cooperation with Ukraine on nuclear research and they will involve Ukrainian experts into the Joint European Program for Radioactive Waste Management. This was the issue of the working meeting of Hans Forsstrom, Senior Adviser of the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB), with representatives of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS), Energoatom Company and Institute of Environmental Geochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
During the working meeting conducted on 16 February 2016 in the SSTC NRS, Hans Forsstrom stated that EC planned to assess opportunities of Ukraine for possible further cooperation in the sphere of nuclear research. Six independent European experts, recognized professionals in certain areas, will visit Ukraine and develop relevant reports for the EC/Euratom.
Besides, according to results of the meeting, the experts outlined the future plans for the cooperation of Ukraine and EC, including the participation of Ukrainian experts in Euratom Project H2020 – JOPRAD (Joint Programming on Radioactive Waste Disposal), the aim of which is to prepare proposals for the Joint European Program for Radioactive Waste Management.
The next meeting within this Project with the participation of Ukrainian representatives will be held on 04 April 2017 in London.
