On 21 April 2017, representatives of the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) visited the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) and, as part of the educational project Spring School Energoatom-2017 told students about scientific and technical support of nuclear and radiation safety regulation.
Oleksii Dybach, SSTC NRS Scientific Director, focused on the main tasks and promising areas of SSTC NRS activities. Besides, he explained why scientific and technical support of the regulatory body is needed and outlined the structure of regulatory activity in Ukraine.
Marat Mustafin, Junior Researcher of the Nuclear Installation Seismic Resistance and Equipment Qualification Department, spoke on the application of engineering experience for leading scientific studies and technologies in nuclear and radiation safety area. He presented a number of issues related to NPP seismic resistance assessment and demonstrated ways of their solution.
Finally, Radik Chanyshev, Deputy Head of NPP Radiation Safety Analysis Laboratory, demonstrated the work of measuring equipment available at the SSTC NRS: RanidSonni mobile reconnaissance vehicle and Vasikka radiation monitoring portable device.
Students and participants of the Spring School liked the SSTC NRS lectures. In the opinion of young people, the workshop on radiation monitoring was the most useful from a practical viewpoint.
