The first official message about the Chornobyl accident was made on this day 31 years ago. It was made under pressure of circumstances, contained little information and it seemed that the threat was removed, but this was not true. However, this was the day when the public spoke. Little by little, journalists and writers began to speak too. Today we again ask: “Writers, please speak!”
The State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety offers you to participate in the short fiction contest “Ukrainian Post-Apocalypse” devoted to the thirty-first commemoration of the Chornobyl accident.
The scope covers man-made disasters, the world and Ukraine after them. We will be glad if you pay some attention to the Chornobyl accident and the Exclusion Zone. Will this be science fiction? Probably, fantasy or another story about the world inhabited by bloodthirsty zombies? Will this be that very Ukraine we are dreaming about, since probably only man-made disaster will save us from corruption and eastern enemy? We do not know. It is for you to decide. The main thing is that we believe that no matter how dark and terrible is the world of your story, we are sure you will be able to show the light of hope for all of us.
We believe that writers are ready to help us make our planet cleaner and safer.
The best stories will be published in the thematic collection of short fiction and the winners selected by the expert jury will be awarded.
Deadline for stories is 5 June (World Environment Day)
In the letter subject, please indicate: “For participation in the ChNPP accident short fiction contest”.
The number of characters is up to 20,000 with spaces. We accept one or two stories from one author or group of authors.
Results of the contest will be announced on the Day of Environment Workers – 7 July.
