Today, on 23 May 2018, the plant emergency exercise on liquidation of a conditional accident takes place at South Ukrainian NPP (SU NPP).
The exercise is being conducted jointly with the Directorate of the State Enterprise "National Atomic Energy Generating Company" Energoatom (NAEK “Energoatom”)", the State Nuclear regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) and the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS) in order to check preparedness of the emergency response systems of the SU NPP in case of an accident and verify efficiency of measures on personnel evacuation.
With the objective of mastering the interaction, the training is conducted with the full activation of the Information and Crisis Center with the involvement of duty services of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine for Emergencies, the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center. The accident scenario involves conditional fire and conditional radioactive contamination of the adjacent territory.
Based on the input data on meteorological, hydrological, geological, man-induced conditions and characteristics of the SUNPP hazard sources, SSTC NRS experts will perform calculations on assessment and prediction of radiation consequences using the decision-making support system RODOS. Also, the SSTC NRS representative will join the Action Program on emergency notification and informing the public in case of a nuclear or radiation accident.
The exercise will be conducted until 24May 2018 inclusively.
