A working meeting on the project “Support and Assistance to Strengthen the Capabilities of the Belarusian Nuclear Regulatory Authority MES/Gosatomnadzor in the Field of Licensing and Supervision of Construction of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant” was recently held in the State Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (SSTC NRS). The event was attended by SSTC NRS experts, representatives of the Belarusian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (Gosatomnadzor), its technical support organization (NRS TSO), and the Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research Sosny. European colleagues from the Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN), Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI) and Association for Safety of Installations and Reactors in Germany (GRS) took also part.
SSTC NRS experts and European colleagues analyzed sections in document “Final Safety Analysis Report (preliminary revision)” of Belarusian NPP unit 1, namely: “Radioactive Waste Management”, “Radiation Protection” and “Decommissioning” and made comments on them. During the meeting, representatives of GRS (France), IRSN (Germany), LEI (Lithuania) and SSTC NRS presented the received comments to the Belarusian party.
“The safety analysis report is a very extensive document. We studied it in detail as regards radwaste management, radiation protection and decommissioning and did our best to share the best practice with our Belarusian colleagues. Our comments have been considered and will be taken into account when developing the final revision of the document”, SSTC NRS expert Oleksii Tokarevsky noted.
